The newest drug, which is legal in many states, though outlawed in several, is Salvia, affectionately known by users as Diviner's Sage, Magic Mint, and Sally-D, among other names. It is a hallucinogenic drug, similar to LSD, giving users experiences ranging from a calm state of relaxation to fits of uncontrollable laughter to vivid hallucinations of shapes, colors, and intense memories from earlier in childhood. It can be chewed, smoked, or brewed to make Salvia-tea.
There are two references that I think will be helpful if you want to investigate Salvia further. The first is a trend alert essay from Walt Mueller. The second, believe it or not, is the article on Salvia Divinorum on Wikipedia (If it's on the internet, the info has to be accurate, right? Haha). But really, the Wikipedia article is lengthy, informative, and will provide links to other explanatory articles.
